In Brief... ...

Have you ever wondered who's been delivering your mail and how they are doing it? One may conjure an image of a friendly postman on a scooter, but that may not be the case now.

Not only is your postman likely to be a lady, she can even be using modes of transport other than the traditional 2-wheeled variety.

Since SingPost's implementation of the neighbourhood postman scheme in 1998, there has been a surge in the number of postwomen. The percentage is now as high as 90%.

Interestingly, as neighbourhood postmen are supposed to use their won modes of transport, some of these postwomen actually drive their own cars at work. One even uses a tricycle.

Unusual they may seem, they are nothing compared to even more perculiar sights hidden in the 743 post boxes situated islandwide, such as Doraemon soft toy and a balloon.

However, SingPost reminds the public not to treat the post box as a dumping ground and to package their mails and items properly before sending.
